That's right: Blackjack! We started playing BlackJack with Paprika (age 7) earlier this week by accident. We were all sick and needed a break from school. Paprika knows her addition facts but her recall was slow. We got the idea to teach her Blackjack, or '21' as they say in some circles. We didn't play for cash.

Next up on our ongoing 'how to play' gaming video series: blackjack. It's often the go-to game for beginner Las Vegas gamblers because basic blackjack strategies are easy to learn. This how to play blackjack guide will teach you all the basic rules required to be able to play online blackjack efficiently. To start, let's define the objective of blackjack because this is commonly misunderstood. HOW TO PLAY BLACKJACK THE BASIC RULES WHEN PLAYING BLACKJACK: Blackjack starts with players making bets. Dealer deals 2 cards to the players and two to himself (1 card face up, the other face down).

Dear Fellow Blackjack Player,

I know what you are thinking: I can learn how to play Blackjack by reading a book and practicing a few hours at home and then go to any casino and wins thousands. Google free games please. But it doesn't always work like that. Sometimes it is best to learn from the best.

What if you could take a course about Blackjack that is taught by someone who has been a full time player for over 25 years, has won hundreds of thousands of dollars and has had over 15,000 students complete his course? Wouldn't you want to learn from them and find out all their secrets?

Where Can I Find Such A Teacher?

My name is Vas Spanos. I have been a full time advantage Blackjack player for over 25 years. I have played all over the world and won thousands of dollars because I have the advantage at Blackjack that casinos fear. I count cards.

I use the mathematical advantage in Blackjack to gain an edge over the casinos to win money. This is the ONLY game available where the player can get the advantage over the house. But to get this advantage you have to have the knowledge to know when to play and what to do - and that information can't be found in a book. That's where I come in.

I can teach you how to become an advantage player in Blackjack and make you a consistent winner. You can gain the edge if you are prepared and know what to do and when to do it. You have to be taught. And a book can't teach you everything because I have never seen a book playing Blackjack!

Why Do I Need Someone To
Teach Me How To Play Blackjack?

Blackjack Instructions How To Play

Everyone needs a teacher. Heck, even Tiger Woods has a teacher and he's the best golfer of all time! Teachers help us learn quicker, easier and more efficiently. They are experts and can give us insight that we can't get anywhere else.

I teach Blackjack players that they can win if they have the advantage. Let me define what I mean by winning. I mean that a player wins more than he loses in 30 hours of play. You don't play continuously for 30 hours. You play an hour today, three hours tomorrow, two hours next week, etc.

The thing is do you make money in the thirty hours that you play? The answer is YES 7 out of 8 times! There is one thirty hour period where you'll lose because of the so called standard deviation factor. You make 17 and the dealer makes 18. You make 19 and the dealer makes 20. The reason that you'll win in 30 hours of play, 7 out of 8 times (that is pretty consistent to me!) is because the trials depend on each other.

By trial, (or event) we mean the following: You place a bet, you receive two cards, you look at what you have and what the dealers up card is and you perform the trial by hitting or standing or doubling down or splitting and you are going to win or lose. But you saw all the cards that came out of the shoe.

Now the dealer picks up the cards and places them into the discard rack. You will not see those cards again until after the next shuffle. Then a new trial begins because you place another bet, you receive 2 more cards and either stand, hit, double, split and you will either win or lose.

As the hands are played, each trial depends on each other because what goes by tells you what to expect. So if you keep track of the cards (by counting them – it's easy to do!) that gives you the upper hand because you change how you play and how much you bet depending on what is left in the shoe.

That is why they say that Blackjack is the only game where there is a strategy that gives the player a certain advantage over the house. Not like craps where you throw the dice once then you throw them again then throw them again. Or Roulette where every spin of the wheel is independent of the last.

I'll Teach You How To Become A Winner - Not A Loser!

I teach you a strategy in the game of Blackjack that gives you an approximate advantage of 2% over the house. By that I mean that your expectation is to average a profit of 2% of the money you bet in 30 hours of play. You multiply your average bet times the number of hands that you played in 30 hours and that gives you the total amount that you wagered in 30 hours. You take 2% of that and that is your profit in 30 hour of play.

For example: Suppose your average bet is $50 and that you play 100 hands per hour. $50 per bet x 100 hands/hour x 30 hours = $150,000. That is the amount of money that you wagered in 30 hours (Believe it or not). Take 2% of that $150,000 ($3000) and that is your profit! That is $100/hour. I don't know too many people who make $100/hour cash!

The Strategy That I Teach Has Four Main Components:

The 1st component is a counting system. We assign values to the cards so that when the cards come out of the shoe you count them and you have a number in your head at all times (+4, -8, 0 whatever it is). This number is the running count which tells you the composition of the remaining deck(s), i.e. the high cards versus the low cards, at all times. From time to time we normalize the 'count' to the number of unseen cards and the new count which is called the normalized count (which is very accurate) tells you how to play your hand like a computer and also determines the odds so you can use it to place the right bet for the next round of play.

Example: If the normalized count is greater than +7 (+8, +9, etc.) you should stand on a 12 versus the dealers upcard of 2. If the n.c. is less than -10 (-11,-12, etc.) you don't double down on 11 versus the dealers 10. By following these rules you play like a computer.

The 2nd component is the stability theory. What do I mean by that? The system gives you a small advantage of 2% over the house and because the shuffle of the deck(s) is not perfect, there are strong patterns developed in the deck during play which gamblers call hot or cold streaks. I call them stability points. I mean there are times when you win 10 hands in a row and I train you how to find and exploit them very fast by increasing your bet combined with the odds that you know from normalized count. The stability points come and go – they do not last for too much time but 2 minutes of stability is a lot of hands. It takes about 5 minutes to go through a shoe with 4 decks. So you see in 2 minutes you can play a lot of hands. You might be at a casino for 2 to 3 hours and will make the money in 2 minutes when the stability arrives!!

The 3rd component (and the most important for anyone playing blackjack to make money) is money management. I cover how much you should invest to play, what you can expect to make, what your goals should be and when to modify your goal. You must set goals and when you accomplish your goal you stop playing. Or sometimes you modify your goal depending on the conditions (all of a sudden it gets crowded, too many people at your table, cards are changed, just quit and leave.) And much more.

The 4th component is discipline and patience, two qualities of paramount importance for successful play. We work with you so you can discipline yourself to only play at certain casinos at certain times under certain conditions. And if these conditions are not met, you do not play. Also, identifying which dealers deal fast so that you can play more hands per hour. The faster they deal the more money you expect to make (remember you expect to make 2% of what you bet). Which casinos, what times, what conditions, what dealers and much more. For example, you want to play at tables in which the dealer penetrates the deck as deeply as possible, that is they put the cut card closer to the bottom of the deck(s) and therefore you get to see 80% of the cards before the next shuffle. And there are other things to look for besides these.

How Does The Course Work?

The course takes approximately 20 to 24 hours of instruction with me. With people in the Twin Cities area we meet once or twice a week for an hour for 3 to 6 months. You also do homework everyday for 30 minutes or more. With students from out of state we meet Thursday thru Sunday for 5 hours a day (2 ½ hours in the morning and 2 ½ hours at afternoon).

I work with my students to throughly teach them the information that they'll need to become an advantage player. You'll learn the four main components and much more like:

Basic Strategy - Zero Memory Strategy
Introduction to counting the cards - The Running Count. (How to count by combining - a simple method.) Explanation of the odds, why the 'plus' count favors the player and why the 'minus' count favors the dealer.
Step by Step Approach: Normalized Count and the Vas Spanos formula that gives you your advantage over the house when the count is 'plus.'
The hard drawing or standing advanced chart (i.e. how to play your stiffs* using the normalized count by comparing it with comparison numbers that are given by the computer.)
The advanced soft drawing or standing chart (i.e., when to draw or stand if you have a soft hand)
The advanced hard doubling down chart (i.e., when to double down on hard 11, 10, 9, 8, etc. using the normalized count by comparing it with the number that the computer has given.)
The advanced splitting chart if doubling after splitting is allowed. (i.e., when to split a pair using the normalized count by comparing it with numbers that the computer has given.)
The advanced splitting chart if doubling after splitting is not allowed.
The advanced surrender chart (i.e. when to surrender your hand for half of your bet using the normalized count, etc.)
Introduction to stability theory (i.e. learn how to identify strong patterns in the deck or decks and exploit them by betting more.)
Betting (i.e., use the normalized count, stability of your hand number of unseen aces, to formulate your betting function.)
Avoiding detection from the casino personal (i.e., camouflage bets, body language, and hiding chips, etc.)
The face down game (i.e., learn how to count when the cards are dealt face down.)
Identify the parameters that help you find good games. Also how to avoid getting crushed from deceptive positive counts, and how to maximize your profit.
